Our client is one of the world's leading pension funds, currently building a new trading platform and consolidating a complex landscape of order management systems. For this purpose, they’re partnering with Strategio to build a high-performing, AI-first consulting team that will support the large-scale transformation initiative.
The environment is fast-paced, highly collaborative, and involves direct interaction with senior stakeholders across technology, trading, and investment operations functions.
The role focuses on post-trade workflows, working across middle office operations to document, analyze, and validate trade lifecycle processes from execution through to settlement and reconciliation. You will ensure the new platform handles operational complexity correctly, including controls, exception management, and the many downstream dependencies that a fund of this scale requires.
We offer a full-time permanent role within the Strategio Financial Services Practice in Toronto, hybrid 4 days onsite and 1 day remote, on a long-term consulting deployment with our client.
What You'll Do:
- Document and analyze middle office workflows across trade confirmations, clearing, settlement, cash management, breaks, and reconciliations
- Convert operational requirements into build-ready specifications, workflow maps, acceptance criteria, and validation artifacts
- Identify control gaps, exception paths, and operational risks in current state processes and map them clearly to future state requirements
- Map dependencies between middle office functions and downstream systems including position keeping, regulatory reporting, and client reporting
- Use AI tools to accelerate workflow analysis, documentation, test scenario generation, and gap analysis
- Ensure new platform workflows reflect operational reality and include appropriate controls, escalation paths, and audit trails
What You Bring
Communication:
- Confident and credible on a trading floor, able to hold your ground and earn trust quickly with senior stakeholders
- Clear written and verbal communicator who can translate complexity for both business and tech audiences
Analytical
- Strong Business Analyst fundamentals: requirements gathering, process mapping, gap analysis, and UAT
- Process-oriented mindset with a natural instinct for operational controls, reconciliation logic, and exception management
- Naturally asks: where does the break occur, what is the control, who is accountable, what is the escalation path, what is the audit trail
- Comfortable mapping complex, multi-step operational workflows with many dependencies, handoff points, and failure modes
Financial Markets
- Strong understanding of post-trade workflows across equities, fixed income, derivatives (listed and OTC), and/or FX
- Working knowledge of trade confirmation and affirmation processes, including matching platforms such as DTCC or Markitwire
- Familiarity with clearing (both CCP and bilateral), settlement (DvP and FoP), cash management, and the handling of trade fails and breaks
- Understanding of reconciliation processes: position, cash, and inventory, and how discrepancies are identified and resolved
- Exposure to corporate actions processing or regulatory trade reporting is a plus
Depth of knowledge will be valued over years of experience.
AI Fluency
- Uses AI tools daily as part of normal workflow
- Has built or materially improved something using AI: a script, prototype, workflow automation, requirements accelerator, testing tool, analysis model, or documentation workflow
- Can explain how they tested AI-generated outputs, identified errors, and applied appropriate human review
- Understands confidentiality, data sensitivity, hallucination risk, auditability, and the need for human-in-the-loop validation
- Has enough market depth to know when AI is wrong, incomplete, or making dangerous assumptions
- Thinks in terms of what AI can help build, test, validate, and accelerate, not just what it can answer
What This Is Not
This is not an operations or trade processing role. You will not be managing breaks or processing confirmations. You are the analyst who understands middle office operations deeply enough to ensure the technology is built to handle them correctly.
