Strategio’s Financial Services Practice is growing, and we’re looking for a Lead Java Developer to help build the future of enterprise financial platforms.

In this hybrid role based in Newark, NJ, you’ll join a high-impact team delivering platform solutions for a Fortune 500 financial institution. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in solving complex backend challenges with modern cloud-native technologies.

About the Role:


We’re seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Java Developer to join a high-impact product team. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys building modern API platforms, mentoring other engineers, and shaping strategic architecture decisions that scale across complex systems.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Architect and deliver elegant, cloud-native solutions to solve complex backend and platform problems.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable APIs using Java and/or C#, Spring Boot or .NET Core, and cloud services like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Champion engineering best practices, including Agile delivery, DevOps, and CI/CD.
  • Partner closely with product owners, scrum masters, and peer tech leads to deliver cohesive platform experiences.
  • Advocate for technical excellence across the SDLC, from planning and architecture to testing and deployment.
  • Mentor junior and senior engineers, promoting growth, knowledge sharing, and a high-performing culture.
  • Contribute to platform roadmaps, driving innovation with ideas, experimentation, and user-centric design.


Required Skills


  • Proven success leading software teams to deliver impactful solutions in fast-paced environments.
  • Deep expertise in object-oriented design and microservices architecture.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Java and/or C#, Spring Boot / .NET Core, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native services.
  • Strong experience working with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
  • Familiarity with DevOps tooling, Agile development, and testing best practices.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills—you know how to make tech talk business and vice versa.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and finding clarity through experimentation and systems thinking.


Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with graph databases or knowledge graph architectures.
  • Exposure to agentic design patterns (e.g., LangChain, RAG, or orchestration layers).
  • Prior background in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.


Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range: $125,000 to $220,000 per year
